How to Care for Printed Activewear: Keep Your Bold Prints Vibrant

Bold prints are an investment. Here's how to keep them looking as vibrant on wash 100 as they did on day one.

Sublimation Printing vs. Screen Printing

The type of printing matters for care. Sublimation printing (used in quality bold-print activewear) infuses dye directly into the fabric fibers — the print is part of the fabric, not on top of it. Screen printing applies ink on top of the fabric surface. Sublimation prints are more durable, more vibrant, and require less special care than screen-printed designs.

Washing Printed Activewear

  • Always turn inside out: Protects the print surface from friction during washing.
  • Cold water only: Hot water can cause dye migration and color bleeding.
  • Gentle cycle: Reduces mechanical stress on the print.
  • Mild detergent: Harsh detergents can strip dye from the fabric surface.
  • No bleach: Destroys both the fabric and the print.
  • No fabric softener: Can coat the print and dull its vibrancy over time.

Drying Printed Activewear

  • Air dry only: Tumble drying creates heat that can cause dye migration and print fading.
  • Avoid direct sunlight: UV exposure fades prints over time. Dry in shade or indoors.
  • Lay flat or hang: Don't wring or twist printed fabric.

Storage

Store printed leggings folded (not hung) to prevent stretching. Keep away from direct sunlight in storage. Don't store damp — always ensure leggings are completely dry before folding and storing.

FAQ

Will my bold prints fade over time? With proper care, sublimation-printed activewear maintains its vibrancy for years. The main enemies of print vibrancy are heat, direct sunlight, and harsh detergents.

Can I iron printed activewear? Never iron directly on the print. If ironing is necessary, turn inside out and use the lowest heat setting.
