Sustainability and bold prints aren’t mutually exclusive. In fact, in 2026, the highest-performing activewear fabrics — the ones that feel the best, last the longest, and perform the hardest — are also the most eco-conscious.
At Azalea Couture, sustainability isn’t a marketing claim. It’s built into the fabric certifications, production choices, and design philosophy of our bold print plus size activewear. Here’s exactly what that means — and how to shop it.
What Sustainable Activewear Actually Means in 2026
The word “sustainable” is overused and often meaningless without specifics. Here’s what to look for — and what we actually use:
GRS — Global Recycled Standard
The GRS is an international, voluntary standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices, and chemical restrictions. When a fabric is GRS-certified, it means the recycled content claim has been independently verified — not just stated by the brand.
What it means in practice: Our GRS-certified leggings are made from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles that have been processed into high-performance polyester fiber. Each pair of leggings diverts approximately 6–8 plastic bottles from landfill or ocean.
OEKO-TEX Standard 100
OEKO-TEX 100 certification means every component of the fabric — threads, dyes, accessories — has been tested for harmful substances and found to be harmless to human health. This is particularly important for activewear worn directly against skin during exercise.
What it means in practice: Our OEKO-TEX certified pieces are free from over 100 harmful substances including pesticides, heavy metals, and formaldehyde.
Sublimation Printing — The Sustainable Print Method
Our bold prints use sublimation printing — a process where dye is infused directly into the fabric using heat, with no water discharge and minimal waste. Unlike screen printing (which uses water-intensive processes and produces chemical runoff), sublimation printing is significantly lower-impact.
What it means in practice: Our bold prints are produced with dramatically less water and chemical waste than traditionally printed activewear — and they last longer, reducing replacement frequency.

The Sustainability Math — Why Quality Beats Fast Fashion
| Factor | Fast Fashion Activewear | Azalea Couture |
|---|---|---|
| Fabric source | Virgin polyester | GRS-certified recycled polyester |
| Print method | Screen print (water-intensive) | Sublimation (minimal water/waste) |
| Chemical safety | Unverified | OEKO-TEX 100 certified (many styles) |
| Expected lifespan | 2–4 months | 18–24 months |
| Replacements in 2 years | 6–12 pairs | 1 pair |

The most sustainable garment is the one you wear for years, not months. Durability is sustainability.
How to Care for Sustainable Activewear to Maximize Its Life
- Wash cold, gentle cycle — Reduces energy use and extends fabric life
- Air dry — Eliminates dryer energy use and preserves fabric integrity
- Wash inside out — Protects the sublimation print from friction
- No fabric softener — Degrades recycled polyester fibers over time
- Use a microfiber laundry bag — Captures microplastic shedding from synthetic fabrics during washing
What We’re Working Toward
We’re honest about where we are on our sustainability journey. Our current commitments:
