The Waistband

The waistband is the most important structural element in a plus size legging. A waistband that rolls, folds, or slides down during movement is not a fit problem — it is a design problem. Our waistbands are wide, double-layered, and constructed to sit at the natural waist. They are tested through squats, forward folds, lunges, and lateral movements to ensure they hold their position through every plane of motion.

We do not use single-layer waistbands. We do not use narrow waistbands. We do not use waistbands that were designed for a straight-size body and scaled up.

The Bra

A plus size sports bra has different structural requirements than a straight-size sports bra. Fuller busts require wider straps, a more structured band, and cup shaping that accounts for the actual volume and weight of the bust — not a scaled-up version of a smaller cup.

Our low-to-medium impact bras are designed for yoga, pilates, and everyday movement. Our high-impact bras are designed for running, HIIT, and strength training. Both are tested with plus size fit models at multiple points in our size range to ensure that the support, coverage, and comfort hold through the specific demands of each activity.

The Legging

A plus size legging has different fit requirements at the thigh, the seat, and the inseam than a straight-size legging. Our legging patterns are developed with plus size bodies as the design standard — the thigh is cut with enough room to move without restriction, the seat is shaped to follow the natural curve of a plus size body, and the inseam is set to prevent the fabric from pulling or twisting during movement.

Every legging in our collection is squat-proof by construction. We use GRS-certified recycled fabric with a tight weave and four-way stretch that holds its opacity under tension at every size in our range.

Print Placement

Print placement on plus size activewear is a design decision, not an afterthought. We scale and position our prints specifically for plus size bodies — ensuring that the motif reads as intended at size L, 2X, 4X, and 6XL, and that the print placement at the waistband, the seat, and the thigh creates the visual effect we designed rather than a distorted version of it.

Fit Testing

Every piece in the Azalea Couture collection is fit-tested with plus size fit models before it goes into production. We test at multiple points in our size range — not just at the smallest size — to ensure that the fit holds across the full L–6XL range.
